In an intense matchup at the Amalie Arena, the home crowd witnessed the Tampa Bay Lightning put up a valiant effort against the Washington Capitals. Despite trailing by two goals after the first period, Tampa Bay managed to find their rhythm and netted one goal in the second period. The third period saw an increase in intensity as they scored twice more, but it wasn't enough to overcome Washington's lead.
The Lightning showcased a strong offensive game with a total of 32 shots on goal and achieved three even-strength goals. However, their powerplay opportunities did not translate into points despite having three chances and four shots during those man advantages. Their faceoff win percentage was less than ideal at 44 percent throughout all periods.
Defensively, Tampa Bay blocked an equal number of attempts as their opponents with 13 blocked shots each. They also delivered hits nearly matching that of Washington's physical play—19 for Tampa Bay compared to 20 by Washington.

The Capitals capitalized on their shooting opportunities with an impressive shooting percentage of 21 percent compared to Tampa Bay’s nine percent.
