The game began with both teams scoring once in the first period. However, it was in the third period that Tampa Bay Lightning unleashed their full potential, netting three goals to seal their triumph. The team's shooting accuracy was remarkable throughout the match, boasting a shooting percentage of 19 percent from their total of 21 shots on goal. This offensive surge was complemented by a solid defensive performance; they blocked a total of 18 shots and delivered 11 hits.

Tampa Bay's goaltender played an instrumental role in this victory by saving all but one of the 22 shots he faced from San Jose Sharks' attackers, resulting in an impressive save percentage of 100 percent. His efforts were crucial in keeping the Sharks at bay after their initial goal.

Special teams also played a pivotal role for Tampa Bay as they capitalized on one out of three powerplay opportunities while maintaining perfect penalty killing stats during shorthanded situations. Their powerplay unit managed four shots and scored once during these advantages.

On faceoffs, Tampa Bay won slightly more than half at 52 percent effectiveness which helped maintain control over puck possession throughout much of the game. They also demonstrated discipline by limiting themselves to just four penalties amounting to eight penalty minutes.

In contrast, despite having equal opportunities on powerplays and matching up closely on faceoffs won (48 percent), San Jose could not convert any advantage into goals and struggled with only four percent shooting accuracy from their total attempts.
