The Maple Leafs started strong, netting two goals in the first period. However, their lead was quickly countered by an aggressive New Jersey Devils side that scored three times before the buzzer. The second period saw both teams add two more goals to their tallies, but it was during this time that the Devils capitalized on their powerplay opportunities by scoring three times with a man advantage.

Toronto's offense was led by their even-strength play where they scored all five of their goals. Despite having fewer shots on goal than usual with only 32 attempts, they managed to maintain a shooting percentage of sixteen percent throughout the game. The team's total point count for this encounter stood at thirteen thanks to eight assists alongside their five goals.

On defense and special teams, however, Toronto struggled. They gave away six penalties resulting in twenty-three penalty minutes which included one major infraction and one misconduct penalty. Their powerplay unit failed to convert any of its three opportunities despite four shots on goal during these chances.

The New Jersey Devils displayed remarkable efficiency in front of goal with a thirty percent shooting percentage from just twenty shots taken during gameplay. Their goaltender saved twenty-seven out of thirty-two shots for an impressive save percentage rounding up to one hundred percent.
