On the defensive end, goaltender Joseph Woll had an outstanding night between the pipes for Toronto. With 38 saves on 41 shots against him, Woll maintained a perfect save percentage during even-strength play and was instrumental in thwarting Tampa Bay's attempts to close the gap.

The powerplay opportunities were where Tampa Bay looked most threatening; they capitalized once out of three chances which briefly gave them hope for a comeback late into the game.
