First Period

The opening period saw the Canadiens take an early lead with a goal, setting the tone for their aggressive playstyle. Despite having more shots on goal, with Vegas recording 31 compared to Montreal's 19 throughout the game, they struggled to find the back of the net. The Knights' inability to capitalize on their opportunities became evident as they failed to score in this period.

Second Period

In the second period, both teams tightened their defenses. The Canadiens managed another goal, extending their lead while keeping Vegas at bay. The Knights had several powerplay opportunities but were unable to convert them into goals. Their powerplay unit took five shots but couldn't break through Montreal's defense.

Third Period

The final period saw some action from Mark Stone of Vegas who scored his team's only goal of the night. However, it was not enough as Cole Caufield and Samuel Montembeault led Montreal's charge with Caufield being named first star for his offensive contributions and Montembeault making crucial saves that kept Vegas at one goal.

Despite winning more faceoffs with a 59 percent success rate compared to Montreal’s 41 percent, what went wrong for Vegas Golden Knights was their inability to turn possession into points on the scoreboard.
