In an intense matchup at Amalie Arena, the Washington Capitals were unable to secure victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Capitals scored three goals on 22 shots, demonstrating a shooting percentage of roughly 14 percent. Despite their efforts, they fell short as their opponents netted six goals from 35 shots for an approximate shooting percentage of 17 percent.

The game started unfavorably for the Capitals as they conceded four goals in the first period while failing to respond with any of their own. However, they showed resilience by scoring one goal in the second period and adding two more in the third. The team's total points contribution amounted to seven, with four assists complementing their three goals.

Washington's goaltender faced a challenging night between the pipes, making 29 saves out of a total of 34 shots before an empty-netter brought his total goals against to six. This resulted in a save percentage near 83 percent for shots where he was present in goal.

On special teams play, both teams had opportunities but it was Tampa Bay that capitalized on theirs. The Capitals had six powerplay chances but were unable to convert any into goals; meanwhile, Tampa Bay made good use of their four powerplay opportunities by scoring twice.

The physical aspect was evident throughout as Washington delivered approximately 45 hits during play and blocked about ten attempts from reaching their netminder. They also took away possession from Tampa Bay around seventeen times but gave up eleven giveaways themselves.

Faceoffs were closely contested with Washington winning about fifty-five percent out of sixty-four faceoffs taken during this encounter – showing slight dominance in this aspect over Tampa Bay who won around forty-five percent.

Looking ahead for fans of the Washington Capitals: Their next challenge will be an away game against Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena located in Sunrise on November sixteen at eight o'clock Eastern Time Zone evening hours.
