The Capitals started strong in their home venue, Capital One Arena, delivering an aggressive performance that was reflected in their total of 36 hits throughout the game. Despite their efforts and maintaining possession through 49 percent of faceoffs won, they were only able to convert one out of their 25 shots into a goal. The lone goal for the Capitals highlighted their powerplay strength but wasn't enough to secure a win.

On offense, Washington's shooting percentage stood at four percent as they struggled to find the back of the net more than once. Defensively, goaltending proved challenging as well; while they made 24 saves during gameplay which lasted for an hour without any overtimes or shootouts involved. Unfortunately for them and their fans among the attendance of 18,573 people at Capital One Arena this evening - three goals slipped past during even-strength play and one more was conceded on an empty net.

Pittsburgh Penguins displayed remarkable efficiency in front of goal by capitalizing on four out of their relatively fewer shots totaling just twenty-eight attempts. Their shooting accuracy was impressive at fourteen percent overall including one shorthanded goal which contributed significantly towards tilting scales favorably towards them along with nineteen blocked shots defensively speaking too – showcasing solid resistance against any offensive threats posed by hosts tonight here in DC where action unfolded before us all live!

Looking ahead after this tough loss against Pittsburgh Penguins; The Washington Capitals are set to take on Tampa Bay Lightning next Saturday night right here again inside Capital One Arena located within our nation's capital city itself!
