The game was marked by an impressive display of offense from the Washington Capitals. They managed to net five goals on just 24 shots, resulting in an outstanding shooting percentage of 21 percent. The team's scoring was spread across three periods with one goal in the first period and two goals each in the subsequent second and third periods. This offensive surge was supported by eight assists, indicating a strong collaborative effort among players.

Defensively, the Capitals were just as formidable. Their goaltender saved 28 out of 29 shots from Tampa Bay Lightning, boasting a save percentage of approximately 97 percent which contributed significantly to their win. The defense also blocked a total of 22 shots and executed nine takeaways, further stifling the Lightning's attempts to gain momentum.

On the other side of the rink, despite winning more faceoffs with a success rate of over 62 percent and blocking more shots than their opponents with a total count of 25 blocks, Tampa Bay Lightning struggled offensively throughout most parts of the game. They only managed to score one goal towards the end of regulation time which came during even-strength play.

Penalties played no small part in this matchup as both teams spent ample time playing short-handed; however neither team capitalized on these powerplay opportunities as all powerplay shots failed to find their way into either net.

The Washington crowd had plenty to cheer about as they witnessed their team’s dominance firsthand; attendance figures showed that nearly eighteen thousand fans filled up Capital One Arena for this eventful night.
