From the opening faceoff, the Capitals set the tone for the game. They opened the scoring in the first period and continued their onslaught with four more goals in the second period before capping off their victory with one final goal in the third. The team's offensive effort was matched by an equally impressive defensive display, as they blocked 20 shots and kept their opponents scoreless throughout all three periods.

The Capitals' shooting accuracy was on full display as they converted 21 percent of their shots into goals. Their special teams contributed significantly to this victory; one of their five powerplay opportunities found its way past the Penguins' goaltender, while even shorthanded, they managed to net a goal on one shot attempt. Faceoffs were nearly evenly split between both teams; however, it was Washington's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities that made all the difference.

A standout performance came from Washington's goaltender who saved all 39 shots faced, maintaining a perfect save percentage and earning a well-deserved win credit for his flawless time on ice during regulation play.

As for Pittsburgh's efforts, despite taking more shots at 39 compared to Washington's 29, none found their way through. The home team won half of its faceoffs but struggled with converting powerplay chances into goals despite having four opportunities.
