The game at Rogers Arena was marked by intense competition and critical plays that ultimately led to the Capitals' victory. The team's performance during even-strength play proved decisive as they netted both their goals during this phase. The Capitals' shooting percentage stood at eight percent as they managed to convert two out of their twenty-four shots into goals. Despite winning only seventeen faceoffs compared to thirty-two by the Canucks, it was Washington's ability to capitalize on their opportunities that made the difference.

Washington's goaltender had an impeccable night between the pipes, saving twenty-one out of twenty-two shots for a save percentage of one hundred percent. This defensive stalwartness kept Vancouver at bay throughout most of the game. On offense, Washington’s players combined for six points through two goals and four assists, showcasing effective teamwork and execution.

On special teams, both squads had limited chances with only one powerplay opportunity each; neither team could turn these moments into scoring plays. The Capitals blocked an impressive number of shots—twenty in total—demonstrating their commitment to team defense and willingness to sacrifice for victory.

The home team Canucks put up a strong fight despite falling short on the scoreboard. They dominated faceoffs with a sixty-five percent win rate and were more physical throughout the match as evidenced by their thirty-two hits compared to fifteen from Washington. However, Vancouver struggled with giveaways which totaled ten against five from Washington—a factor that may have contributed significantly to their loss.
