On defense, Charlie Lindgren made an impressive effort between the pipes for Washington with 28 saves on 31 shots before an empty-netter sealed their fate. Despite his efforts and a save percentage rounding up to 100 percent for even-strength shots faced, it wasn’t enough to secure victory.

The Pittsburgh Penguins showcased their resilience by bouncing back every time they were challenged on ice. Evgeni Malkin led by example for Pittsburgh; his pivotal role was acknowledged as he was named one of three stars due to his significant contribution including scoring crucial goals that kept momentum on Pittsburgh's side throughout crucial moments.

Joel Blomqvist also received accolades for his goaltending prowess after saving all but two shots directed at him over three periods which played a critical role in securing this win for Pittsburgh amidst intense competition.
