First Period

The opening period saw both teams locked in a defensive battle, with neither side able to find the back of the net. The Capitals managed to outshoot their opponents but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Despite having more shots on goal, they couldn't break through Jeremy Swayman's solid goaltending.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, Boston took control with David Pastrnak scoring on a powerplay opportunity. This marked a turning point as Washington struggled with penalties and failed to convert any of their own five powerplay chances throughout the game. The Caps' inability to score during these critical moments highlighted what went wrong for Washington Capitals.

Third Period

In an attempt to rally back in the third period, Tom Wilson scored for Washington after receiving an assist from Jakob Chychrun. However, it was not enough as Boston's defense remained steadfast and added two more goals—one being an empty-netter—to seal their victory.

The standout performance by Swayman was crucial; he made 35 saves and maintained composure under pressure from multiple attacks by Alex Ovechkin and his teammates. Meanwhile, Logan Thompson stood strong between pipes for Washington but faced relentless pressure from Pastrnak and other Bruins forwards.
