First Period

The game began with the Devils taking an early lead. They scored twice in the first period, capitalizing on their offensive opportunities. Despite being outshot by the Caps, who managed 31 shots throughout the game, New Jersey's defense held strong.

Second Period

Both teams tightened their defenses during this period. The Capitals' goaltender Logan Thompson was instrumental in keeping his team within reach by making crucial saves. However, neither team could find the back of the net as they headed into intermission with no change to the scoreline.

Third Period

The Caps mounted a comeback effort in this period. Connor McMichael and Alex Ovechkin each found ways past Jake Allen, leveling up for Washington and sending fans into a frenzy at Capital One Arena. Their efforts brought new life into what had been a challenging matchup for much of regulation time.

Overtime and Shootout

Despite several attempts from both sides during overtime play, neither team could break through again before heading to a shootout showdown. In this high-pressure scenario, it was ultimately Jake Allen's performance that stood out; he saved three shots while allowing only one goal from Ovechkin during shootouts—securing victory for his side.
