The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses with neither side managing to find the back of the net. The Capitals displayed solid defensive work, limiting Toronto's opportunities and keeping their goaltender Logan Thompson well-protected. Despite being outshot by the Leafs, Washington's defense held firm.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, Toronto struck first with a goal that put them ahead. However, Washington responded swiftly as Connor McMichael found an opening to equalize for his team. The Caps' offensive pressure began to mount as they increased their shot count against Toronto's goaltender.
