First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses. The Caps managed to fire off 21 shots during even strength play but were unable to find the back of the net. Despite their efforts, it was Minnesota who struck first, taking advantage of their powerplay opportunities and scoring one goal in this period.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, Washington's struggles continued. The Caps had two powerplay chances but failed to capitalize on them. Their faceoff win percentage stood at 47 percent overall for this game, indicating some challenges in gaining control of puck possession. Meanwhile, Minnesota extended their lead by adding another goal during even strength play.
