The game began with both teams netting one goal each in the first period. However, it was during the second period that the Avalanche took control, scoring three goals to pull ahead significantly. The Jets were unable to answer back for the remainder of the game, despite their efforts.

Winnipeg's sole goal came from an even-strength play and was one of their 27 shots on goal during the match. Their shooting percentage stood at a mere four percent as they struggled to find a way past Colorado's goaltender who saved 26 shots with a perfect save percentage in even-strength situations.

The Jets' powerplay unit had four opportunities but failed to capitalize on any of them; they managed four shots during these chances and won two-thirds of their powerplay faceoffs. Conversely, Colorado made good use of their powerplays by converting two out of four opportunities into goals.

Defensively, Winnipeg blocked 14 shots and delivered 30 hits throughout the game but also gave away possession four times which could have contributed to counterattacks by Colorado. In terms of faceoffs, both teams were evenly matched with each winning half out of a total number contested at 68.

Winnipeg's goaltender faced an onslaught making an impressive total number saves at thirty but allowed five goals including one empty-netter which sealed their fate towards loss credit; his save percentage for even-strength plays was commendable though not enough to secure victory against relentless opposition attack that fired thirty-four shots towards him excluding empty net attempts.
