First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses. The Jets managed to get on the scoreboard first with a powerplay goal from Kyle Connor, assisted by Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi. This initial lead gave hope to Winnipeg fans that their team might control the game. However, Montreal quickly responded with a goal of their own during even strength play.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, it became evident that Montreal's strategy was paying off. The Habs capitalized on their opportunities and scored two more goals while keeping Winnipeg scoreless in this segment. Despite having four powerplay opportunities throughout this period alone, including several shots on target from Nino Niederreiter and Alex Iafallo, none found their mark due to strong goaltending from Samuel Montembeault.
