Analyzing St. Louis Blues' Previous Season Performance

The previous season was a mixed bag for the St. Louis Blues, showcasing moments of brilliance intertwined with challenges that tested their resilience. With a total of 82 games played, they managed a shooting percentage of 10 percent and faced off win percentage standing at 50 percent, reflecting a balanced approach in their offensive and defensive strategies.

Their power play performance highlighted some areas of strength, particularly with an 18 percent success rate from 239 opportunities during 5v4 plays, contributing significantly to their overall goal tally of 234 goals from 2370 shots. However, despite these efforts, they ended with a plus-minus rating of -99 indicating struggles in maintaining consistency throughout the season.

On special teams' performance, while their power play showed promise with a faceoff win percentage at an impressive 57 percent during power plays; shorthanded scenarios painted a different picture where they managed only a kill percentage of 79 percent and faced off wins dropping to 47 percent under pressure.

What This Means for The Upcoming Game

Given these statistics from last season and considering current trends leading into this game against Dallas Stars, it's clear that special teams could play a crucial role once again for the St. Louis Blues. Their ability to capitalize on power play opportunities while tightening up defensively during shorthanded situations could be key factors influencing this matchup's outcome.

Moreover, goaltending will also be under scrutiny as last season saw them saving at an efficient rate but still conceding an average of nearly three goals per game (2.78). Improving these numbers will be essential if they aim to secure more wins this season starting with this critical encounter against the Stars.
