The game began with both teams unable to score in the first inning. However, momentum shifted in favor of the Blue Jays during the second inning when they capitalized on two hits and an error by the Pirates to score their first run of the game. The fifth inning saw another surge from Toronto as they managed two more hits and added another run to their tally. The eighth inning was pivotal for Toronto when they scored once again after two hits.

Toronto's hitting statistics were notable with an overall batting average of .265 and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .286. They recorded nine hits throughout the game including four extra-base hits (XBH), one home run (HR), and three runs batted in (RBI). Their performance at bat also included eight at-bats with runners in scoring position (AB RISP) and they successfully hit twice under those circumstances.

Defensively, Toronto's fielding percentage stood at .968 despite committing one error which was a throwing mistake. Their pitchers struck out 13 batters over eight innings pitched, achieving an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6.5.

Onbase plays were significant for Toronto; they had five left on base (LOB) situations but managed to drive in three runs with two outs. This clutch hitting kept them competitive throughout each frame.

The Pittsburgh Pirates responded robustly during their turn at bat in later innings, particularly during a powerful fourth where four hits translated into two runs followed by another pair of runs scored off two hits aided by an error from Toronto's defense in the fifth inning.

Pittsburgh's pitching staff held strong against Toronto's hitters despite allowing nine total bases over five innings pitched from their bullpen which resulted in three earned runs but ultimately did enough to secure victory for Pittsburgh who now sit even with a 13-16 record this season.
