Blue Jays Narrowly Clipped by Royals in a Pitcher's Duel at Kauffman Stadium

13-14 Blue Jays faced off against the 16-10 Kansas City Royals in a game that ended with a tight 2-1 scoreline. The Toronto Blue Jays, despite their efforts, could not overcome the home team at Kauffman Stadium.

The Blue Jays' offense struggled to gain momentum throughout the game, managing only three hits and one run. Their lone run came in the fourth inning when they capitalized on two of their hits. The team's batting average was a modest .176, with an on-base percentage (OBP) of 30 percent and slugging percentage (SLG) of .235. They left seven runners on base (LOB), indicating missed opportunities to score.


Toronto's pitching staff held up reasonably well against the Royals' lineup. Starting pitcher José Berríos completed five innings with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.6 and nine strikeouts per nine innings (K9). However, he took the loss for his team as he allowed two earned runs over his outing. The Blue Jays' pitchers maintained a walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) of 1.2 and limited Kansas City to three hits as well.

Defensively, Toronto was flawless with no errors recorded during the game and achieving a perfect fielding percentage (FPCT) of 100 percent. They turned one double play and made five assists over five innings played before rain concluded the match early.


The Kansas City Royals matched Toronto's hit total but were able to convert them into two runs early in the first inning which ultimately decided the game. Cole Ragans pitched effectively for Kansas City earning himself his first win while holding down Toronto’s hitters.
