In a game that saw a combined total of 23 hits, the Blue Jays managed to edge out their opponents by one run. The home team's hitters were particularly effective, recording a .343 batting average and driving in six runs. Their slugging percentage was an impressive .657 for the game, bolstered by three home runs that contributed significantly to their total base count of 23.

Génesis Cabrera earned his first win of the season from the bullpen for Toronto, showcasing control and efficiency over his innings pitched. Tim Mayza, Trevor Richards, and Erik Swanson each recorded holds as they helped maintain the lead built by their offense. Nate Pearson secured his first save of the year in a tense final inning.

The Royals put up a strong fight throughout all nine innings but fell just short despite collecting 11 hits themselves. They were able to capitalize on one fielding error made by Toronto but couldn't overcome their opponent's offensive output.

Toronto's pitching staff had mixed results; while they struck out seven batters across nine innings and held Kansas City to five runs (four earned), they also allowed eleven hits and three walks. The bullpen proved more effective than starters overall with an ERA of 3.375 compared to starters' ERA of 4.909.
