In an evening marked by light rain and mist at Nationals Park, the Pirates' performance was dampened as they fell to the Nationals. The Pirates managed to secure four hits throughout the game but were hindered by an error that contributed to their defeat. Despite these challenges, they showed resilience in the second inning with two runs scored and added another run in the sixth inning.

The Pirates' hitting statistics reflected their struggle against Washington's pitching. With an average of .125 and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .222, it was clear that reaching base was a challenge for Pittsburgh. They left six runners on base (LOB) and had only one successful hit with runners in scoring position (RISP). However, their slugging percentage stood at .250 thanks to two extra-base hits including one home run which brought in three runs batted in (RBI), showcasing moments of offensive capability.

Defensively, Pittsburgh's fielders posted a .971 fielding percentage with nine assists and completed two double plays despite committing one error due to interference. The bullpen held its own as well; over 2.2 innings pitched they maintained an earned run average (ERA) of 0.0 while striking out three batters.

On the other side of the diamond, Washington capitalized on ten hits which translated into five runs scored against Pittsburgh's pitchers who ended up with a combined ERA of 4.5 over eight innings pitched. The Nationals also took advantage of one Pirate error contributing to their total score.

As for individual performances from Pittsburgh’s roster: Mitch Keller suffered his first loss after conceding four earned runs across five-plus innings pitched while striking out five batters along his outing.

Looking ahead after this setback under cloudy skies and cool temperatures around 49 degrees Fahrenheit during playtime lasting two hours and thirty minutes before an attendance crowd counting fourteen thousand twenty-two fans; loyal followers can catch their next chance when Pirates take on Nationals again at Nationals Park scheduled for April 4th at 8:05 PM Eastern Time broadcasted by SportsNet PT.
