Pirates' Rally Not Enough to Outscore Brewers in High-Scoring Affair at PNC Park

The Pittsburgh Pirates, with a record of 13-13, faced off against the Milwaukee Brewers, who came into the game with a 16-8 record. The final score read 7-5 in favor of the visiting team.

The Pirates started strong at PNC Park, putting up three runs on two hits in the first inning. Their offense continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning by adding two more runs on another pair of hits. Despite these efforts and a total of eight hits throughout the game, they could not maintain their early lead.


Pittsburgh's hitting statistics were notable; they achieved an on-base percentage (OBP) of .375 and a slugging percentage (SLG) of .394. They also managed to get seven walks during the game. The team's batting average was .242 with runners in scoring position (RISP), resulting in three successful hits from twelve at-bats and driving in two runs with two outs.

On defense, Pittsburgh displayed efficiency as evidenced by their perfect fielding percentage (FPCT) of 1.0 across thirty-two total chances (TC). They turned one double play and made five assists without committing any errors throughout nine innings.


The bullpen had its struggles though; over four innings pitched they allowed three earned runs off six hits for an earned run average (ERA) of 6.75 and a walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) ratio standing at 2.25.

Milwaukee's performance was highlighted by twelve total hits which contributed to their seven-run tally for the day. Their pitching staff held up against Pittsburgh's lineup despite allowing five runs; ultimately securing victory through effective relief appearances that included holding onto their lead late into the game.
