The Pittsburgh Pirates improved their season record to 35-37 after a commanding 4-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, who fell to 34-38. From the outset, the Pirates took control of the game by scoring three runs in the first inning on three hits. They extended their lead with an additional run in the second inning through two more hits. Despite a solitary error in the third inning that didn't lead to any runs for Cincinnati, Pittsburgh's defense remained solid throughout. The team's pitching staff played a pivotal role in securing this win, highlighted by Paul Skenes earning his fourth win of the season.

The Pirates' bullpen also contributed significantly to stifling any potential comeback from Cincinnati. Aroldis Chapman and Colin Holderman both recorded holds for their efforts in preserving Pittsburgh's lead. David Bednar secured his fifteenth save of the season by closing out Cincinnati efficiently.

On offense, Pittsburgh demonstrated discipline and power at crucial moments. The team managed eight hits overall and capitalized on scoring opportunities with runners in scoring position (RISP), achieving two hits from seven at-bats (AB) under these circumstances. Their resilience was further evidenced by managing six left on base (LOB) while still pushing four runs across home plate.

Cincinnati struggled against Pittsburgh’s tight defense and effective pitching strategy but managed one run off seven hits throughout nine innings. Carson Spiers was tagged with his first loss of the season after failing to contain Pittsburgh’s hitters effectively.
