From the initial pitch, it was evident that the Pirates were on a mission, managing to put up a run in the opening inning despite an early error. Their prowess with the bat was notable as they amassed ten hits over the course of play. The team's tenacity shone brightly in the ninth inning when they added two decisive runs to clinch their victory. On defense, Aroldis Chapman showcased his pitching prowess from the bullpen with an earned run average (ERA) of zero and maintaining a walks plus hits per inning pitched ratio at one throughout his stint on mound—striking out adversaries at an impressive rate of eighteen per nine innings pitched.


The Cincinnati Reds displayed commendable effort as well, particularly shining in the seventh inning where they rallied to score all three runs off their eight hits during this encounter but were ultimately let down by two errors across nine innings which proved costly.
