From the outset, Pittsburgh set an aggressive pace, amassing four runs off five hits in the opening inning alone. They didn't let up, methodically adding runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. Their offensive onslaught was punctuated by three home runs that played a significant role in accumulating their seven-run total.

On the mound for Pittsburgh was Jared Jones, whose stellar outing was instrumental in securing his team's win. Over seven innings pitched, Jones maintained an impressive earned run average of 2.571 and struck out nine batters while allowing just four hits—a testament to his dominance on this day—with his walks plus hits per inning pitched standing at an exceptional 0.5714.

Andrew McCutchen emerged as one of the game's standout hitters for Pittsburgh with an impressive .500 batting average that included one home run and one run batted in (RBI). His contributions were crucial in reinforcing Pittsburgh's offensive efforts throughout the contest.

Defensively, Michael A. Taylor and Nicholas Gonzales shone brightly as well; both players upheld perfect fielding percentages during this game while also delivering solid performances at bat.

The Nationals managed to put up single runs during each of the first two innings but found themselves stifled by Pittsburgh’s pitching thereafter—only managing another solitary run late in ninth despite several opportunities to narrow down or even overturn their deficit earlier on.
