Pirates' Performance Under Scrutiny

The Pirates struggled offensively throughout most of the game, managing only five hits over thirteen innings. Despite this, their determination in extra innings paid off as they scored one run in both the twelfth and thirteenth innings to clinch the win. The team's batting average was notably low at .128, reflecting their struggle to connect with pitches effectively. However, their on-base percentage (OBP) stood at .306 thanks to drawing seven walks and being hit by a pitch once.

Joseph Bart and Thomas Pham were standout performers for the Pirates in this challenging game. Bart showcased his batting skills by hitting .400 with two hits out of five at-bats and maintaining an OBP of .500. Pham contributed significantly with an RBI while batting .333 and achieving an OBP of .600.

On the pitching side, Mitch Keller started for the Pirates delivering an impressive performance that kept them competitive throughout his time on the mound. Keller's ERA remained untouched at 0.00 as he managed to keep his WHIP low at 0.6818 across more than seven innings pitched.

Cardinals Struggle to Capitalize

The Cardinals faced similar challenges in generating offense against a resilient Pirates pitching staff but managed seven hits throughout thirteen innings—two more than their opponents—but it wasn't enough to secure victory despite having fewer errors (1). Their lone run came late in the twelfth inning which momentarily tied up the game before ultimately falling short in subsequent play.
