Reds' Offensive Struggles

The Big Red Machine struggled to find their rhythm offensively, managing only two hits over nine innings. Will Benson and Spencer Steer were among those unable to break through Houston's pitching. The Reds had difficulty converting with runners in scoring position, leaving eight men on base and failing to score any runs.

Cincinnati's pitching staff also faced challenges. Starter Chase Petty allowed four earned runs over three innings, contributing to an overall team ERA of 5.625 for the game. Despite striking out ten batters collectively, including six by reliever Taylor Rogers who maintained an impressive K/9 rate of 13.5, it wasn't enough to counterbalance Houston’s offensive output.

Astros Capitalize

Houston took advantage of Cincinnati's struggles early on with a pivotal third inning where they scored three runs off four hits. The ‘Stros added another run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth inning due to effective hitting from key players like Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman.

Astros’ pitchers kept Cincinnati hitters off balance throughout the game; their bullpen was particularly effective with a WHIP of just 0.8 across five innings pitched by relievers alone.
