The game was marked by several lead changes and both teams displayed competitive spirit throughout. The New Orleans Pelicans, despite trailing in the first quarter with only 14 points compared to the Thunder's commanding 33 points, managed an impressive comeback in subsequent quarters. They outscored their opponents in each of the remaining periods, tallying up scores of 29, 35, and finally sealing their win with a strong fourth-quarter performance of 32 points.

The Pelicans showcased resilience on both ends of the court. Defensively they were solid; they recorded five blocks and eight steals which contributed significantly to their efficiency rating of 119. A key factor for their success was their ability to capitalize on turnovers; they scored an impactful total of 23 points off turnovers. Additionally, their bench played a crucial role by contributing a significant portion of their overall point tally with bench players scoring a combined total of 27 points.

On offense, field goals were not falling as efficiently as usual for New Orleans who had an overall shooting percentage rounded down to just under forty percent from field goal range. However, they made up for this by dominating inside scoring fifty-two paint points which accounted for nearly half their point production.

The Oklahoma City Thunder also had moments where they shined during this matchup but ultimately fell short despite having led for over thirty minutes during playtime and boasting what was once a twenty-two-point lead over New Orleans. Their two-point shooting was particularly effective at approximately fifty-seven percent success rate but struggled beyond the arc hitting only twenty-one percent from three-point land.
