From the opening tip-off, it was clear that the New Orleans Pelicans were in for a challenging night. The first quarter saw them trailing by sixteen points as they posted 24 to the Indiana Pacers' dominant 40-point performance. The Pelicans managed to narrow this gap slightly in the second quarter by outscoring their opponents with a solid 29 points but still found themselves playing catch-up.

The third quarter showcased an impressive offensive push from New Orleans as they racked up another 33 points against Indiana's defense. However, maintaining consistent defensive pressure proved difficult; the Pacers answered back with 32 points of their own. Heading into the final stretch of play, both teams had amassed significant totals – yet it was evident that closing down Indiana's scoring avenues would be critical for any chance of a comeback.

In an attempt to rally and overtake their hosts in the fourth quarter, New Orleans added another respectable tally of 28 points to their score sheet. Unfortunately for them and their fans back home in Louisiana, this surge wasn't enough to overcome Indiana's steady accumulation throughout the game.

Analyzing team statistics reveals where challenges arose for New Orleans: despite shooting at an efficient rate from both field goal range (47 percent) and beyond-the-arc (38 percent), they struggled defensively against an aggressive Pacers offense that boasted nine blocks and five steals over four quarters of play.
