Pelicans' Wings Clipped by Suns: Phoenix Shines in New Orleans Showdown

The New Orleans Pelicans faced off against the Phoenix Suns at the Smoothie King Center, resulting in a 115-108 victory for the visiting team. This outcome pushed the Pelicans to an 8-24 record, while the Suns improved to 17-13.

First Quarter


The game began with both teams trading baskets, but it was clear early on that the Suns were determined to set a fast pace. The Pelicans managed to keep up initially, with Zion Williamson showcasing his strength inside and contributing significantly to their 23 points in this quarter. However, Phoenix edged ahead with a slight lead of 26 points.


Second Quarter


In the second quarter, Jordan Poole stepped up for New Orleans, adding crucial points and assists that kept them within striking distance. Despite Poole's efforts and some solid defense from Jose Alvarado who recorded several steals, the Pels trailed as they headed into halftime with a score of 53-48 in favor of Phoenix.


Third Quarter


The third quarter saw an offensive surge from both sides. Trey Murphy III found his rhythm beyond the arc for New Orleans while Saddiq Bey contributed effectively on both ends of the floor. The Pelicans outscored their opponents this period with a total of 32 points but still found themselves trailing due to Devin Booker's relentless scoring spree for Phoenix.


Fourth Quarter


Entering into what would be a decisive fourth quarter, tensions ran high as lead changes occurred frequently between these two competitive squads. Despite Bryce McGowens' attempts at closing gaps through aggressive drives and free throws drawn by Jeremiah Fears boosting morale momentarily; ultimately it was not enough against Deandre Ayton’s dominance under boards coupled alongside Chris Paul’s veteran leadership guiding Valley towards sealing victory over home team by final whistle blowing at full-time result reading: Suns -115; Pels -108.
