The Thunder, playing at their home venue Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, demonstrated their strength inside the paint with 42 points, outscoring the Pelicans who had 36 points in that area. The home team capitalized on fast break opportunities, scoring 20 points from such plays and showing an impressive fast break conversion rate of 62 percent. This performance was pivotal in maintaining their offensive momentum throughout the game.

Oklahoma City also excelled on defense with seven blocks to their name while drawing more fouls than their opponents, which led to them having one additional timeout remaining by the end of the match. Their defensive efforts were reflected in a lower defensive rating compared to New Orleans at just under 96 points per hundred possessions.

On offense, both teams had an almost equal number of field goal attempts; however, Oklahoma City was more efficient with a field goal percentage of 44 percent compared to New Orleans' 38 percent. The Thunder also made good use of second-chance opportunities by scoring 11 points off ten attempts.

Despite being tied thirteen times and experiencing twenty lead changes throughout the contest, it was Oklahoma City's ability to maintain control for over twenty-two minutes that contributed significantly to their narrow win. Their largest lead during the game was ten points which proved crucial as they fended off New Orleans' attempts at regaining dominance.

The Pelicans did put up strong resistance though; they led for over fifteen minutes and even managed a seven-point lead at one stage during play. They were particularly effective from beyond the arc hitting eleven three-pointers but struggled with overall shooting efficiency.
