Washington Wizards vs Detroit Pistons: Did Bub Carrington’s 30-point surge keep pace with Motor City’s paint barrage?

The Washington Wizards moved to 16-52 after a 130-117 result against the the Detroit Pistons, who improved to 49-19 at Capital One Arena.

First quarter


The Washington Wizards and the Pistons opened tied at 32-32 as Washington matched Detroit’s early pace while the game produced 8 ties and 5 lead changes overall.


The Wiz posted 7 steals and 5 blocks in the game, and that activity helped keep the opening quarter level before Detroit established longer control later.


Second quarter


The Pistons took the second quarter 31-25 as Detroit began stacking efficient possessions behind 31 assists while Washington finished with 20 assists.


Motor City also built separation with 62 bench points compared with 35 from DC, and that gap showed up as the Pistons carried a lead into halftime.


Third quarter


Detroit won the third quarter 37-26 as the Pistons turned 13 Washington turnovers into 25 points off turnovers while the Wiz scored 13 points off Detroit’s 13 turnovers.

Fourth quarter


The Washington Wizards won the fourth quarter 34-30 as DC leaned on perimeter efficiency and finished at 43 percent from 3-point range on 37 attempts.
