Can Ohio State Buckeyes' Ground Game and Defense Seal Victory Against Marshall Thundering Herd?

The Ohio State Buckeyes continued their undefeated streak, moving to 3-0 for the season after a commanding 49-14 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd at Ohio Stadium. The visiting team, now standing at 1-2, struggled to keep pace with the Buckeyes in a game that showcased Ohio State's offensive prowess and defensive solidity.

Game Highlights


The Buckeyes' offense was on full display, amassing a total of 569 yards with an impressive average gain of 10 yards per play. A significant portion of this came from their ground game, which contributed 280 yards. Quinshon Judkins led the rushing attack with 173 yards on just 14 carries, including an electrifying longest run of 86 yards that resulted in one of his two touchdowns. TreVeyon Henderson also made notable contributions with two touchdowns and 76 rushing yards on six attempts.


Ohio State's passing game was equally effective, thanks to quarterback Will Howard who completed 16 out of his 20 attempts for a total of 275 passing yards. Howard threw two touchdown passes and had an interception but maintained an outstanding passer rating of 218.5. His primary target was Emeka Egbuka, who racked up117 receiving yards on five receptions, including a longest catch of68yards that he took to the house for one touchdown.


On defense, the Buckeyes were relentless; they recorded one sack by Caden Curry and forced one fumble by Lathan Ransom which highlighted their ability to disrupt Marshall's offense effectively. The defense held Marshall to just14 points while limiting them to minimal gains throughout much of the contest.


Special Teams Performance


Special teams also played a crucial role in Ohio State's victory. Jayden Fielding successfully converted all five extra-point attempts he made during the game contributing significantly towards maintaining momentum for The Buckeyes.
