First Quarter

The opening quarter saw both teams locked in a defensive battle, as neither side managed to put points on the board. The Buckeyes' defense set an early tone, effectively containing the Longhorns' offensive efforts and showcasing their readiness for the season.

Second Quarter

In the second quarter, Ohio State broke through with quarterback Julian Sayin connecting on a 40-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Carnell Tate. This play was pivotal in giving Ohio State momentum and establishing an early lead. The defense continued its dominance by preventing any scoring opportunities for Texas.

Third Quarter

The third quarter mirrored much of the first half's defensive intensity. Both teams struggled to advance offensively as defenses held firm. Arvell Reese stood out for his contribution of one sack and five assists, further solidifying his role as a key player in maintaining Ohio State's defensive strength.

Fourth Quarter

As tensions rose in the final quarter, both teams found ways to score. The Buckeyes extended their lead with CJ Donaldson rushing into the end zone from one yard out after capitalizing on field position gained from Joe McGuire’s strategic punts averaging 43 yards each. Despite a late touchdown by Texas narrowing the gap, Jermaine Mathews Jr.'s interception sealed Ohio State's victory.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day expressed satisfaction during his post-game reaction about how well-prepared his team was defensively against such formidable opponents like Texas: "Our guys executed our game plan perfectly."

Looking ahead, fans can anticipate another exciting matchup when Grambling State Tigers visit Columbus next week at 3:30 PM EDT on September 6th at Ohio Stadium; coverage will be available via BTN network broadcasts nationwide.
