Nissan Stadium Showdown: Purdue Boilermakers Edge Tennessee Volunteers in Football Frenzy

The Purdue Boilermakers, with a season record of 9-4, faced off against the Tennessee Volunteers, who came into the game with a 7-6 record. In a high-scoring affair at Nissan Stadium, the home team emerged victorious with a final score of 48-45.

In front of an attendance of 69,489 fans, the Boilermakers' offense was on full display as they amassed a total of 627 yards. The passing game was particularly effective; Purdue's quarterback threw for 534 yards and five touchdowns. His longest pass completion was an impressive 75 yards which also resulted in the longest touchdown of the game. Despite three interceptions by their quarterback, Purdue maintained offensive efficiency with a completion percentage rounded to 55 percent and an average gain per play standing at nearly eight yards.


Purdue's receiving corps had an outstanding day as well, racking up those same 534 yards through air on just 26 receptions which translates to an average of roughly twenty-one yards per catch. Their red zone efficiency was flawless with six attempts and six successes while their goal-to-go efficiency mirrored that perfection.


On special teams, Purdue's kicker contributed significantly to the scoreline by successfully converting all four field goal attempts with his longest being from thirty-nine yards out. The kicking unit also added four extra points after touchdowns without any misses.


The defense for Purdue managed two sacks totaling sixteen lost yardage for Tennessee and forced four fumbles during the course of play – recovering one themselves – showcasing their ability to disrupt their opponent’s rhythm. They held firm despite allowing forty-five points against them.


As for penalties in this hard-fought contest between these two teams; both sides showed discipline but it was notable that Purdue incurred only five penalties amounting to sixty-one penalty yards throughout the entire game.
