Temple Owls Stumble Against Oklahoma Sooners: A Tough Start to the Season

In the season opener that set the tone for their respective campaigns, the Temple Owls stumbled out of the gate, suffering a decisive 3-51 defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners. This contest, which unfolded at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, drew an impressive crowd of 83,329 spectators who bore witness to a game that firmly established the Sooners' dominance from start to finish. With this result, Temple's record dips to 0-1 while Oklahoma enjoys an early boost with a 1-0 standing.

Throughout this encounter, it became evident that Temple faced significant challenges in establishing any form of offensive momentum against a stalwart Oklahoma defense. The highlight for Temple came via Maddux Trujillo's leg, as he drilled a field goal from nearly half a century away at 49 yards out—accounting for the Owls' sole points on the day.

Defensively, moments of promise emerged amidst an otherwise tough outing for Temple. The team managed to sack Oklahoma's quarterback three times and recorded three tackles for loss. Latrell Jean and Tyquan King stood out on defense; Jean with one sack and King adding another plus four assists and one tackle for loss to his personal tally.

Offensively, quarterback Forrest Brock had a challenging day under center completing just under half of his pass attempts (12 out of 25) for 128 yards but was intercepted twice without finding the end zone. The ground game saw E.J. Wilson as its leader with six carries yielding 31 yards while Dante Wright was Brock’s primary receiver snagging three passes for 36 yards.

The special teams unit experienced varied success; Trujillo’s field goal attempt sailed through successfully marking Temple’s only score while punter Dante Atton demonstrated skill under duress punting six times totaling 263 yards including one punt that pinned Oklahoma within their own twenty-yard line.

Looking forward after this opening setback, the Temple Owls are slated to go head-to-head against Navy Midshipmen at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis on September 7th at half past three in the afternoon Eastern Daylight Time. This upcoming match promises another opportunity for redemption and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network available via satellite channel number is221 ensuring fans have access to every play as it happens.
