Bruins Fall to Bearcats at Rose Bowl in Season Opener
The UCLA Bruins started their season with a 0-1 record after a tough game against the Cincinnati Bearcats, who improved to 1-0. The final score at the Rose Bowl was 26-17 in favor of the visitors.
The Bruins' offense managed to accumulate a total of 281 yards, with their rushing attack contributing significantly with 144 yards on the ground. A highlight for the Bruins was an impressive 74-yard touchdown run, which stood out as one of two rushing touchdowns for the team. The passing game added another dimension, albeit less explosively, totaling 162 yards through the air.
Defensively, UCLA showed some resilience by sacking Cincinnati's quarterback four times and recovering one fumble. However, they were unable to intercept any passes throughout the game. On special teams, UCLA's punting unit had six attempts for an average of about 43 yards per punt and successfully placed one inside the Bearcats' twenty-yard line.
Penalties were relatively low for both teams; however, it is worth noting that UCLA incurred six penalties amounting to just over two dozen penalty yards. In terms of efficiency on critical downs, UCLA converted six out of fifteen third-down attempts but failed on both fourth-down tries.
UCLA's field goal unit was successful in its lone attempt from within fifty yards while maintaining perfect records in extra point kicks with two made out of two attempts. Despite these efforts and having possession for over half an hour during gameplay time (25:39), it wasn't enough to secure victory against a determined Cincinnati team.
Looking ahead after this opening defeat at home, fans can mark their calendars for when The UCLA Bruins will face off against The Oklahoma Sooners at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman on September 8th at noon local time (5 PM UTC). This upcoming contest will be broadcasted live on FOX network channels where supporters can tune in and cheer on their team from afar.
