The game, held at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, saw the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers assert their dominance early on. The first quarter ended with both teams tied at seven points each, but by halftime, the Hilltoppers had pulled ahead with an additional fourteen points while keeping the Golden Eagles scoreless in that quarter.

The third quarter was a defensive battle with neither team able to put points on the board. However, in the fourth quarter, Western Kentucky extended their lead by another seven points and allowed only three from Southern Miss.

The offense of Western Kentucky was particularly effective through both passing and rushing attacks. The quarterback completed 21 out of 31 pass attempts for a total of 231 yards and two touchdowns; one being an impressive longest touchdown pass of sixty-four yards which also marked his longest completion for this game. On top of that performance through air attack, they managed to rush for one hundred thirty-four yards across thirty-four attempts which included another touchdown.

Defensively speaking, Western Kentucky's prowess was evident as they recorded three sacks totaling twenty-four sack yards lost against them and forced two fumbles recovering both—one returned fifty-one yards for a touchdown—showcasing their ability to capitalize on turnovers effectively.

Special teams also contributed significantly; although there were no blocked punts or punt returns for touchdowns by either team during this encounter. However, it is worth noting that all four extra point kicks attempted by Western Kentucky were successful contributing crucially to their overall point tally.

As fans look forward to future games after such an assertive performance away from home soil against Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team; they can mark their calendars for November 30th when Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will face off against Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green KY which will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM local time where fans are sure to witness another exciting game as part of this season's football action.
