New Mexico State Aggies Face Setback Against UC Irvine Anteaters at Orleans Arena

The New Mexico State Aggies suffered a defeat at the hands of the UC Irvine Anteaters with a final score of 85-68. The Aggies now stand with an overall record of 0-1, while the Anteaters have taken their first victory, moving to 1-0.

In what was an intense matchup at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, the New Mexico State Aggies were unable to secure a win against their opponents. The game saw the UC Irvine Anteaters establish a strong lead in the first half with 48 points compared to the Aggies' 30. Despite a more competitive second half where the Aggies scored 38 points against UC Irvine's 37, it wasn't enough to close the gap.


The New Mexico State team struggled from inside the arc, shooting only 34 percent on two-point attempts and making just eleven baskets out of thirty-two attempts. From beyond the arc, they fared slightly better with a forty-one percent success rate, sinking eleven three-pointers from twenty-seven attempts. Free throw opportunities were also not fully capitalized on by New Mexico State as they made thirteen out of twenty shots from the line.


Defensively, The New Mexico State managed three blocks and five steals but committed fifteen personal fouls over the course of play. They gathered thirty-two rebounds in total—eight offensive and twenty-three defensive—but this was overshadowed by UC Irvine's thirty-seven rebounds which included eight offensive and twenty-seven defensive ones.


UC Irvine showed remarkable accuracy from three-point range hitting fifty-eight percent for fourteen made threes out of twenty-four attempts. Their field goal percentage stood at forty-nine for field goals made out of fifty-nine attempted shots. At close quarters within paint boundaries both teams scored equally with twenty points each.
