The Sun Devils' offense was particularly effective in capitalizing on turnovers, scoring 19 points off these opportunities. Their defense also stood tall with six blocks and five steals throughout the game. A significant contributor to their success was their dominance in rebounding; they outrebounded the Bobcats by a substantial margin with 49 rebounds compared to Montana State's 37.

Their shooting accuracy from two-point range was notable at approximately 42 percent, although they shot just under 29 percent from beyond the arc.

However, it wasn't enough as even after putting up an impressive third-quarter rally where they scored more than double what they did in second quarter (25 points), it wasn't sufficient to close down on Arizona States lead who kept adding steadily across all quarters after initial burst (15 points each subsequent quarter).
