Sun Devils Narrowly Defeated by Antelopes at Desert Financial Arena in Women's Basketball Showdown

In a closely contested game at Desert Financial Arena, the Arizona State Sun Devils fell to the Grand Canyon Antelopes with a final score of 59-66. The Sun Devils now stand with a record of 0-1, while the Antelopes improved to 1-0.

However, it was in the fourth quarter that Arizona State showcased their fighting spirit. They surged ahead with an impressive 23 points but ultimately could not close the gap created earlier in the game. The team’s shooting accuracy from beyond the arc was notable as they achieved a three-point shooting percentage of approximately 54 percent compared to Grand Canyon's roughly 29 percent.


The Sun Devils also excelled in generating second-chance opportunities by scoring twelve second-chance points and demonstrated effective ball distribution with ten assists over Grand Canyon’s eight. However, personal fouls proved costly for Arizona State as they accumulated eighteen fouls over Grand Canyon’s ten.


On defense, both teams were evenly matched with each recording eight steals and one block respectively. In terms of rebounds, however, Grand Canyon held an advantage pulling down thirty-two rebounds against Arizona State’s twenty-six which contributed significantly to their victory.


Grand Canyon capitalized on turnovers scoring fifteen points off turnovers while Arizona State managed eighteen off theirs; both teams had sixteen turnovers each during play. Free throw accuracy was another area where Grand Canyon excelled hitting ninety percent from the line whereas Arizona State made seventy-five percent of their free throws.
