Sun Devils' Effort Falls Short Against Golden Bears at Haas Pavilion

The Arizona State Sun Devils, with a record of 0-0 before the game, faced off against the California Golden Bears at Haas Pavilion. Despite a valiant effort, the Sun Devils were unable to secure victory, falling to the Golden Bears with a final score of 67-55.

Arizona State Sun Devils VS California Golden Bears

The Sun Devils started strong in the first quarter, putting up 13 points against the Golden Bears' dominant 26-point performance. The second quarter saw an improved offensive push from Arizona State as they scored 19 points but still trailed behind California's consistent scoring. By halftime, it was clear that Arizona State needed to find an answer for California's offense.

Arizona State's tenacity shone through in the third quarter where they added another 14 points to their tally. However, their defense struggled to contain California's attack in the paint which resulted in a total of 40 points for their opponents by game end. The fourth quarter proved challenging for Arizona State as they managed only nine additional points while trying to mount a comeback.

Statistically speaking, Arizona State showcased some solid play despite their loss. They achieved a field goal percentage of 38 and were particularly effective from beyond the arc with a three-point shooting percentage of 50. Their efforts inside were highlighted by scoring 28 points in paint and securing second-chance opportunities that led to 16 extra points.

On defense, however, there was room for improvement as they allowed California too much space on offense which reflected in their opponent’s higher field goal percentage of 46 and two-point shooting accuracy at an impressive rate of 60 percent.

Individually for Arizona State, contributions across the board included five steals and two blocks that demonstrated defensive moments worth noting. On offense, they distributed well with eleven assists but had trouble maintaining possession resulting in thirteen turnovers which slightly overshadowed this aspect of their game.

As fans look ahead after this tough loss on foreign ground at Berkeley’s Haas Pavilion – home court advantage clearly playing its part – attention now turns towards future games where lessons learned can be applied.

The next challenge awaits as The Arizona State Sun Devils prepare to visit Maples Pavilion on February 25th at noon local time (1:00 PM Mountain Time) where they will face off against Stanford Cardinal.
