The game started off tight with both teams showing strong defense, but as time progressed, it was evident that the Bulls had found their rhythm. The visitors from South Florida demonstrated remarkable offensive coordination with an assist count double that of the Pirates (26 assists), which contributed significantly to their scoring opportunities. Their ability to convert two-point attempts was also notable; they made 25 out of 44 attempts resulting in a solid 57 percent success rate.

The Pirates fought valiantly and showcased moments of brilliance particularly in second-chance points where they led with 25 compared to the Bulls' 11. Their defensive efforts were highlighted by achieving five blocks over the course of the game and matching their opponents in steals with six each. However, turnovers proved costly for East Carolina as they gave up possession fourteen times while South Florida maintained better control only losing it nine times.
