Did Maryland Terrapins' Paint Dominance Rattle Iowa State Cyclones at Maples Pavilion?

The Maryland Terrapins faced a challenging contest against the Iowa State Cyclones, culminating in a high-scoring affair that ended 86-93. The Terrapins entered the game with an aggressive offensive strategy, opening with a strong first quarter by putting up 33 points. However, despite their efforts and maintaining a consistent scoring pace throughout the game, they fell short as the Cyclones surged ahead to secure their victory.

Maryland's performance was marked by notable statistics; they shot 46 percent from both the field and three-point range. On the other side of the court, Iowa State's offense proved slightly more efficient in key areas which contributed to their win. The Cyclones had an impressive shooting performance with field goal percentages reaching fifty-seven overall and sixty-six for two-point attempts specifically.


Iowa State also dominated inside play with fifty points scored in paint while managing ten fast break points against Maryland's six. Furthermore, they outrebounded Maryland significantly with thirty-nine rebounds—six offensive and thirty-three defensive—and turned those into fourteen second-chance points.


Despite trailing after one quarter (20-33), Iowa State found its rhythm as time progressed; particularly in third quarter where they amassed thirty points which shifted momentum firmly in their favor for remainder of contest.
