Nebraska Cornhuskers' Rally Falls Short Against Penn State Lady Lions at Bryce Jordan Center

The Nebraska Cornhuskers faced a challenging contest against the Penn State Lady Lions, concluding with a score of 82-73. The Cornhuskers now stand with an overall record of 0-1, while the Lady Lions have marked their first victory, moving to 1-0.


Penn State Lady Lions VS Nebraska Cornhuskers

The game held at Bryce Jordan Center saw the Cornhuskers put up a valiant effort. They started off matching their opponents with 12 points in the first quarter but fell behind in the second, scoring only 14 points to the Lady Lions' impressive 24-point performance. The third quarter witnessed a resurgence from Nebraska as they outscored Penn State by one point, netting 19 to their opponent's 18. However, it was in the final quarter that Nebraska truly shone, amassing an impressive 28 points but it wasn't enough to close down Penn State's lead who secured another 18 points.


Nebraska's offensive efforts were led by their ability to convert second-chance opportunities into an additional 21 points. Their tenacity on defense was evident as they racked up eight steals and managed one block throughout the game. The team also demonstrated solid teamwork with a total of twelve assists.


Despite these efforts, Nebraska struggled from beyond the arc hitting only nine out of twenty-nine three-point attempts which translates into a thirty-one percent success rate from downtown. Inside the paint though they were more effective scoring twenty-eight points and showing dominance on rebounds pulling down forty-four compared to Penn State's thirty-seven.


The Lady Lions capitalized on fast breaks contributing significantly to their victory with twenty-one fast break points and displayed superior shooting accuracy across all fronts: sixty percent for two-pointers (twenty-two made out of thirty-seven), forty-seven percent for field goals overall (twenty-nine made out of sixty-two), and seventy-seven percent from free throw line (seventeen made out of twenty-two). Their defensive prowess also stood out as they blocked three shots and recorded ten steals over Nebraska's eight.


Penn State showed better discipline avoiding turnovers; while both teams had fourteen player turnovers each, Nebraska had additional team turnovers leading them to eighteen total compared to fourteen for Penn State which allowed them eighteen points off those turnovers.
