Nebraska Cornhuskers Overcome Purdue Boilermakers in Big Ten Second Round

The Nebraska Cornhuskers emerged victorious with a 64-56 win over the Purdue Boilermakers in the second round of the Big Ten. The Cornhuskers, who had no rank coming into the game, improved their record to an undisclosed number of victories and defeats, while the Boilermakers' record adjusted similarly.

Nebraska Cornhuskers VS Purdue Boilermakers

The game started off rocky for the Cornhuskers as they trailed with only 7 points to Purdue's 12 by the end of the first quarter. However, they found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Purdue by five points and closing out at halftime with a total of 25 points against Purdue's 25. The third quarter saw both teams neck and neck but it was in the final quarter that Nebraska truly shone. They racked up an impressive 24 points against Purdue's 19.

Nebraska’s offensive efforts were led by a balanced attack that saw them shoot at a solid rate from both inside and outside; they made eight three-pointers out of twenty-two attempts (36 percent) and fifteen two-pointers from thirty-four attempts (44 percent). Their field goal percentage for the game stood at an effective 41 percent.

Defensively, both teams were evenly matched with four blocks each. However, Nebraska managed to pull down more rebounds than their opponents—41 compared to Purdue’s 35—giving them crucial additional possessions. The Cornhuskers also capitalized on turnovers better than their opponents; despite having more turnovers themselves (20), they scored seventeen points off turnovers while limiting Purdue to twenty-seven.

Purdue fought hard throughout all four quarters but struggled with shooting accuracy; hitting just thirty-six percent from field goals overall and thirty-five percent from beyond-the-arc. Despite this challenge, they managed to keep free throw shooting perfect at five out of five attempts (100 percent). Their defense forced sixteen turnovers from Nebraska but could not convert these opportunities into enough points on fast breaks or second-chance shots.

As fans look forward to future games, attention now turns towards another challenging matchup for Nebraska as they prepare to face Michigan State Spartans away at Target Center in Minneapolis on March 8th at 3:00 PM Eastern Time. This upcoming contest promises another exciting chapter for Husker fans who can catch all live action broadcasted on BTN network.
