In what was expected to be a competitive SEC semifinal matchup, the Ole Miss Rebels struggled to find their footing at the neutral site. The game's early minutes were marked by low scoring from both sides; however, it was evident that the Tigers had managed to gain an upper hand. The Rebels could only muster two points in paint during this period while shooting at a modest rate from inside the arc with one successful shot out of three attempts for a field goal percentage of thirty-three percent.

The home team Tigers demonstrated more effective shooting prowess, converting four out of four two-point attempts which contributed significantly to their six points in paint. Despite not making any three-pointers and free throws alike – with zero attempts at free throws – they still managed an impressive eighty percent field goal success rate.

Defensively, both teams were on par as neither recorded any blocks or foul outs in this initial quarter. However, LSU did manage one steal and provided one assist that contributed directly to their point tally. On the other hand, Ole Miss committed one personal foul and turned over possession once without recording any steals or assists.

Rebounding was another area where Ole Miss fell short; they grabbed only one rebound throughout this period compared to LSU's two rebounds. This sole rebound for Ole Miss came offensively which did not translate into second-chance points due to their inability to capitalize on turnovers – having scored no points off turnovers.
