Petersen Events Center Showdown: Pittsburgh Panthers vs Ball State Cardinals in Women's Basketball Nail-Biter

In a closely contested matchup at the Petersen Events Center, the Pittsburgh Panthers faced off against the Ball State Cardinals in a non-conference women's basketball game. The final score was 68-66 in favor of the visiting team. The Panthers now stand with an overall record of 0-1, while the Cardinals improved to 1-0.

However, by halftime, that lead was cut down to just three points as the Panthers outscored their opponents by one point in the second quarter.


The third quarter proved pivotal for Ball State as they extended their lead significantly, putting up an impressive 24 points against Pittsburgh’s 17. Despite this setback, Pittsburgh showed resilience and matched their third-quarter output again in the fourth with another 17 points while holding Ball State to just seven points during that period.


This strong defensive performance by Pittsburgh forced an overtime showdown after ending regulation time on equal footing at a total score of 60 each. In overtime though, it was Ball State who managed to edge out with eight additional points compared to six from Pittsburgh.


Key players for Pittsburgh included their top scorer who contributed significantly towards their total tally of 66 points. On defense, they were able to contain some of Ball State's offensive threats but ultimately fell short by two points when time expired.


Despite this loss at home, fans witnessed a competitive spirit from the Panthers throughout all five quarters of play. Their determination kept them within striking distance until the very end and provided an exciting atmosphere within Petersen Events Center.
