San Diego State Aztecs Dominate Sacramento State Hornets at The Nest in Women's Basketball Showdown

In a commanding display of basketball, the San Diego State Aztecs outplayed the Sacramento State Hornets with a final score of 68-45. The Aztecs' season record now stands at an impressive 1-0, while the Hornets fall to 0-1.

The game, held at The Nest in Sacramento, saw the San Diego State Aztecs set an aggressive pace from the start. In the first quarter, they put up 19 points against the Hornets' 11. Although their scoring slowed down in the second quarter with only 12 points added to their tally, they came back strong after halftime. A remarkable third-quarter performance saw them rack up another 24 points, effectively sealing their dominance over Sacramento State.


The defensive efforts by San Diego were equally notable as they amassed a total of 15 steals throughout the game. This defensive pressure contributed to a significant number of turnovers by Sacramento State which totaled to 24 for them compared to only 12 by San Diego. Capitalizing on these opportunities, San Diego scored an impressive 25 points off turnovers.


On offense, shooting accuracy was key for San Diego as they achieved a two-point field goal percentage of approximately fifty-four percent and were successful on eighty percent of free throw attempts. Their ability to score inside was evident with thirty-six points coming from within the paint.


Rebounding also played a crucial role in this matchup; both teams grabbed over thirty rebounds but it was San Diego who edged out with one more than their opponents totaling thirty-four rebounds including eleven offensive boards that led to nine second-chance points.


As for three-pointers, it wasn't San Diego's strongest suit as they made just four out of twenty-two attempts which translates into an eighteen percent success rate from beyond the arc. However, this did not significantly impact their overall performance or outcome of this contest.


Sacramento State struggled offensively throughout most parts of this encounter but managed better accuracy from three-point range hitting eight out of twenty-four attempts giving them approximately thirty-three percent success rate from downtown.
